Melbourne Cricket Ground

The Indian Premier League 2022, also known as IPL 15 or Tata IPL 2022 for sponsorship reasons, was the fifteenth season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), a twenty20 professional cricket competition organized by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2007. The tournament was played from March 26, 2022, to May 29, 2022. The tournament's group stage was played entirely in the state of Maharashtra, with Mumbai and Pune hosting the games. The full tournament schedule was announced on March 6, 2022.

The season saw the expansion of the league with the addition of two new franchises. As such, this was the second ten-team season after the 2011 tournament. The Chennai Super Kings were the defending champions, winning their fourth title last season.

In the final, the Gujarat Titans defeated the Rajasthan Royals by seven wickets to win their first IPL title.

INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE 2022

Chennai Super Kings won the 2021 IPL and will play the first game of the 2022 IPL Cricket against last season's runners-up Kolkata Knight Riders. For the first time since its inception in 2008, teams were split into two virtual groups during the IPL competition phase, which could have far-reaching implications for IPL results.

The 70 matches of the 2022 IPL Cricket competition phase were played at four venues in Mumbai and Pune. Over the years, the competitive phase of the IPL has always been played in a home-away format, with each team playing the same opponent twice, but there was a change in the 15th edition.

The number of teams in IPL 2022 was increased to 10 with the addition of two new franchises - Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants, but the number of games per team remained at 14. The 10 teams played a total of 14 league games out of 70 league games. Games followed by the 4 playoff games. Each team played twice against 5 teams and the remaining 4 teams only once.

To decide this, teams were assigned to two virtual groups based on the number of IPL championships won, followed by the number of finals contested by each team. At IPL 2022, Group A consists of Mumbai Indians, KKR, Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals, and Lucknow Super Giants. Group B has Chennai Super Kings, SunRrisers Hyderabad, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Punjab Kings, and Gujarat Titans.

Each team played twice with the teams in their group and with the team in the same row of the second group. They only play once a season with the other teams in the second group.

A new team and a new captain gave their all at the 2022 IPL Cricket.
